Florida’s Coggins Rule Applies to Horse Movement Within the State

Florida’s horse-movement rules are not limited to interstate travel. FDACS states that horses moving within Florida must have an official negative Equine Infectious Anemia test dated within the previous 12 months, subject to limited foal exemptions.

A boarding operation should know who is responsible for confirming a current Coggins before a horse loads. Relying on an owner to find a document at the last minute is a predictable operational failure.

• Track Coggins expiration dates for horses that travel.
• Require current EIA documentation before scheduled transport.
• Keep digital or printed copies accessible to authorized staff.
• Confirm event requirements in addition to the state minimum.
