North Carolina Adds New World Screwworm Entry Rules for Horses From Affected States

North Carolina began enforcing added interstate health requirements in June 2026 for warm-blooded animals, including horses, arriving from states affected by New World Screwworm infested zones.

What changed

The state requires an accredited veterinarian to complete normal import requirements and comply with the national NWS movement guidance. For animals from infested zones, the CVI is valid for no more than seven days from inspection and must include a specific NWS inspection statement.

That short validity window can affect scheduling for horse sales, shows, training moves, and boarding arrivals.

• Verify whether the origin is inside an NWS infested zone.
